I'm Luis Albero Martinez, a biologist from Valencia, Spain. Since I can remember, I've been interested in all facets of the natural world and its inhabitants, specially the wild animals. Since my childhood, I have dedicated much of my free time to observe and study the natural world, beginning with ornithology and now with a special passion about amphibians and reptiles. Some of my favourite animal groups are frogs, snakes, raptor birds and dragonflies. But I try to be a complete naturalist, so I observe every animal that comes across both on land and the sea (I love marine fauna, and I'm also an amateur scuba diver). Therefore, I enjoy observing and photographing every kind of animal.
I studied biology, did a master's degree on Biodiversity Conservation and now I'm working sampling herpetofauna across eastern Spain for the Spanish Herpetological Association. I'm also finishing my Phd about amphibian ecology, which I did in León University, Spain. I strongly believe in the power of scientific research, including citizen science, to provide valuable knowledge for conservation of delicate and endangered animals as most amphibian and reptiles are. In addition, I also try to help these animals through education and active conservation with the Timon Herpetological Association ("Asociación Herpetológica Timon"), a local herpetology group which I founded with some friends and herpetology enthusiasts of my native region (Valencian Community).
I continue trying to spend on the field as long time as my work allows me. Most of the time I go alone or with some friends to look for herps or birds on natural areas very close of Valencia. As often as I can I perform longer trips to observe and photograph animals on other parts of Spain and different parts of the world. I especially like tropical environments, like rainforests and deserts.
In this website you can find reports of my naturalistic trips, as well as my work as an amateur nature photographer and I also include a section with my scientific work. I hope all you enjoy my content! Feel free to contact me via this website or by Facebook or Instagram (see below). If you are interested on birding, you can check also my eBird profile.
